In 1985, Gwendolyn Galsworth, had an encounter with pink powder at a Toyota assembly plant that ignited her thinking about visuality. She realized that that powder was in fact a performance partner in Toyota’s production process—plus key to the perfect quality for which the company was then famous. From this, she derived the two prime principles of visuality that she describes here (with examples).
